National Days to Celebrate in December with Kids!

We all know about the standard national holidays in December, but what about those unique, sometimes off-the-wall national days to celebrate in December? As a homeschooling family, the national days to celebrate in December make for some pretty fun ways to think creatively and encourage literacy!

Why Include National Days to Celebrate in December?

We’re all busy, right? Especially when we’re including other December activities in our day. I get it. Including the National Days to Celebrate in December will only take about 10 minutes of your day, but will leave you and the kids with plenty of memories! I’ve taken care of all the planning for you, too, so why not?

Include National Days in your homeschooling because they’ll make life exciting! They’ll give you and the kids something to look forward to each day & something to smile about. I mean, celebrating National Llama Day makes me smile! Including these fun, often silly, days is also a creative way to include a bit of “thinking outside of the box” education, too!

You won’t regret it!

December Writing Prompts

My kids have been thriving in the homeschool setting. If there’s one thing I’ve noticed, though, it’s that generic writing prompts can get boring real fast. When I was a teacher, I noticed the same with my students, so, there’s a chance your kids could be having the same experience. There are so many resources out there, but my boys have been loving my themed writing prompts because they’re fun, they’re relevant, and they encourage creativity and critical thinking.

When it comes to writing prompts related to the national days to celebrate in December, I typically let my kids complete them as the first task on their daily homeschool schedule. Starting the day off with a fun activity, in which there are really no right or “wrong” answers, gets them excited for their day and gets us started on the right foot. Since the printable set I made includes prompts for the entire month, the national days to celebrate writing prompts are pretty much a “set it and forget it” activity because I print out an entire month’s worth of prompts at a time.

The National Days to Celebrate in December writing prompt set includes the following:

• an entire month’s worth of daily writing prompts
  • each page is dated by the month number date (ex. “December 1”), but not the day of the week, so this resource can be used for ANY calendar year.
• 9 “national month” writing prompts
  • just in case you come across a national day writing prompt that you’re not jiving with, there are 9 for backup! These are NOT dated, but are month specific

  • just in case you want to use for other lessons

National Days to Celebrate in December Conversation Cards

I’m all for putting a pencil to paper, but there are plenty of other ways to learn while making memories…like having conversations! My December Conversation Cards include the same prompts as the writing prompt set, but encourage conversations rather than writing.

National Days to Celebrate in December Activities

The daily celebrations really don’t have to end with daily writing prompts or conversations. Come on now! Consider including a fun, hands-on activity for a few (or all!) of the National Days in December.
