National Days to Celebrate in November with Kids!

We all know about the standard national holidays in November, but what about those unique, sometimes off-the-wall national days to celebrate in November? As a homeschooling family, the national days to celebrate in November make for some pretty fun ways to think creatively and encourage literacy!

Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite, kid-friendly days to celebrate in November as well as a pretty awesome freebie! Let’s go!

Why Include National Days to Celebrate in November?

I get it! You’re a busy homeschooling parent and you likely already have enough to take care of. Why should you include another educational activity in your homeschool plans?

Listen, we’ve been including the National Days to Celebrate in our homeschool days ever since day 1. Why? Well, they give us something to look forward to each and every day! Not only do they make for some fun celebrations, but they’ve also allowed all of us to learn a thing or two every day and to make more memories together as a family.

I’ve made it super simple to include these November days to celebrate in your homeschool so, really…don’t worry about adding any extra stress to your plate. I’ve taken care of it all.

November Writing Prompts

My kids have been thriving in the homeschool setting. If there’s one thing I’ve noticed, though, it’s that generic writing prompts can get boring real fast. When I was a teacher, I noticed the same with my students, so, there’s a chance your kids could be having the same experience. There are so many resources out there, but my boys have been loving my themed writing prompts because they’re fun, they’re relevant, and they encourage creativity and critical thinking.

When it comes to writing prompts related to the national days to celebrate in November, I typically let my kids complete them as the first task on their daily homeschool schedule. Starting the day off with a fun activity, in which there are really no right or “wrong” answers, gets them excited for their day and gets us started on the right foot. Since the printable set I made includes prompts for the entire month, the national days to celebrate writing prompts are pretty much a “set it and forget it” activity because I print out an entire month’s worth of prompts at a time.

The National Days to Celebrate in November writing prompt set includes the following:

• an entire month’s worth of daily writing prompts
  • each page is dated by the month number date (ex. “November 1”), but not the day of the week, so this resource can be used for ANY calendar year.
• 9 “national month” writing prompts
  • just in case you come across a national day writing prompt that you’re not jiving with, there are 9 for backup! These are NOT dated, but are month specific
• a blank writing prompt template
  • just in case you want to use for other lessons
• a printable with all of the National Days to Celebrate in November that we’ve included as well as 9 National Month themes we’ve included
• a journal cover
  • plenty of space for doodles and personalization, there’s even a spot for your child/student to write their name to claim the writing prompt journal as their own

National Days to Celebrate in November Conversation Cards

We’re all about differentiating learning opportunities over here! When I was a special education teacher, I did this all the time – some kids did better when they physically wrote down answers to assignments while some thrived during verbal assessments.

Everyone’s different! Because of this, I made an alternative to my writing prompts: National Days to Celebrate in November Conversation Cards. They’re a little bit more prep than the print-and-go of the writing prompts set, but the little bit of extra time is worth it!

The conversation cards are also awesome because they allow for on-the-go learning! Once they’re all prepped, stick ’em in the car and the kids can do them while en route to the next field trip or on the way to your homeschool co-op!

Just as with the November writing prompts, the conversation cards include 1 card/prompt per day in November as well as 1 card/prompt for the 9 National Month themes.
