We all know about the standard national holidays in February, but what about those unique, sometimes off-the-wall national days to celebrate in February? As a homeschooling family, the national days to celebrate in February make for some pretty fun ways to think creatively and encourage literacy!

Why Include National Days to Celebrate in February?

So January has passed and it’s time for February. You’ve already got plans for celebrating the February holidays like Valentine’s Day, Groundhog Day, and President’s Day. Oh, and let’s not forget possibly celebrating Leap Day and…Superbowl Sunday!

You’ve already got your work cut out for you, so why should you even consider including the National Days to Celebrate in February? Well, the national days give you (and the kids!) a reason to take a moment to celebrate something each and every day. In today’s world, there’s so much negativity so I am always happy to find something positive to celebrate!

Include National Days in your homeschooling days because they’ll make life exciting, give you & the kids something to smile about, and because they do have educational value!

How to Celebrate the National Days

There are literally hundreds of National Days eager to be celebrated every year. How on earth can we fit them all in?

The short answer? You can’t.

But don’t worry! I’ve spent countless hours browsing the web to find the best kid-friendly National Days to enjoy in February and beyond. I’ve gathered them all into a handy list and created resources that you can use to celebrate all year long!

National Days to Celebrate in February Writing Prompts

It seems like writing prompts often get a bad reputation among homeschoolers. Have you noticed that? Many people dismiss them as mere busywork without real educational value.

Well, I see things differently. When I design writing prompts, I aim to inspire kids to think creatively, explore subjects more thoroughly, and actually look forward to their daily writing practice.

I can’t promise every writing task will be met with excitement, but I can say my boys are eager for my themed writing prompts because they’re entertaining!

My set of writing prompts for celebrating National Days in February is just as engaging!

When it comes to February’s national days, I love to let my kids tackle writing prompts as their first homeschool task. Kicking off the day with something fun, where there’s no pressure for right or wrong answers, really gets them pumped up for the rest of their lessons.

Plus, I’ve created a printable set with prompts for the whole month, so it’s a breeze. I just print out all the prompts at once, and it’s ready to go, making it a hassle-free activity for us.

The free National Days to Celebrate in February writing prompt set includes the following:

• an entire month’s worth of daily writing prompts
  • each page is dated by the month number date (ex. “February 1”), but not the day of the week, so this resource can be used for ANY calendar year. YES, we even included Leap Day!

National Days to Celebrate in February Conversation Cards

I believe in offering diverse learning experiences whenever I can. Back when I was teaching, plenty of students faced challenges with writing. Some had issues with the physical act of writing, while others struggled with different parts of the writing process.

But here’s the thing: just because a kid can’t, for any reason, finish a writing prompt doesn’t mean they can’t be involved.

From this insight, I created a conversation-based alternative to my February writing prompts: National Days to Celebrate in February Conversation Cards!

Instead of needing to write down responses, these cards transform prompts into conversation starters. They’re perfect for families who find writing a challenge, lack access to writing tools (like while on educational travel!), or simply want to encourage more dialogue and create lasting memories together.

Just like with the February writing prompts, the conversation cards offer one card or prompt for each day in February, along with a card for each of the nine National Month themes.
