If you ask me, teaching social emotional skills is just as important as teaching core content subjects. Including the LuvBug Learning app ino your daily homeschool activities is one way for your kids to learn social skills in a manner that is both fun and meaningful!
If you’ve been around here for a bit, you might know a little about my history as a special education teacher. Before my boys were born, I taught self-contained special education classes. While I did teach my students typical subjects like reading, math, and science, I especially enjoyed teaching life skills and social skills.
Why?
Because, as wonderful as it could be that my students knew their multiplication facts or the history of their home state, life skills and social skills were skills that would benefit them each and every day of their lives.
Do you do multiplication every day? No. Do you have conversations with another human being every day? Yes.
See? Social Emotional Skills are lifelong skills and something that, as parents, we must be sure to include in our daily homeschool lessons. If you’re anything like me, you like to take advantage of any opportunity to make learning meaningful, memorable, and fun (oh, hey…that looks familiar! wink, wink), so you should totally take a look at using LuvBug Learning for teaching social emotional skills to your kids!

An Overview of LuvBug Learning
In a nutshell, LuvBug Learning is a platform allowing kids to learn social emotional skills through one of their favorite forms of technology: video games! Designed for kids ages 5-11, LuvBug Learning offers a variety of fun games and videos that teach and reinforce a variety of social emotional skills. The games will often include a repeating sequence of playing a fun & educational game and answering questions about various social skills and life skills. Some of my favorite features of LuvBug Learning include:
- NO In-App Purchases
- Ads within apps are so annoying! I love that I don’t have to worry about ads popping up while my kids are playing/learning.
- Parent Dashboard
- I can see what my kids have been learning, see the scores on the “quizzes,” and even set limits on screen time.
- Impressive Graphics
- The creators of LuvBug Learning definitely knew what they were doing when it came to graphic design. The included characters are adorable and the graphics are fun and inviting to kids (and adults!)
- User-Friendly Activities
- Definitions of various social emotional learning terms are available for kids and instructions are provided before every game within LuvBug Learning. Even if your child isn’t a self-proclaimed “pro-gamer” like my boys, they should have no probably navigating all the activities.
- Reasonable Pricing
- The creators of LuvBug Learning provide an excellent value and even have plans to include even more content and activities within the app in the coming months. You’ll definitely want to take advantage of the special discount code at the end of my review!

I must also add that, since we love to include travel into our homeschooling activities, I certainly appreciate that LuvBug Learning is an activity that can be done anywhere. My kids do have limited time to play video games, but, since these games and videos actually encourage learning, I don’t have to feel guilty about their screen time.
Our Experience Using LuvBug Learning
Anytime I’m going to be sharing a review on any curriculum or app with you guys, I always try it out before getting my kids involved. Kind of like lesson planning as a teacher, I like to have an idea of what the lesson is all about and get to know the program so I can answer any questions my kids might have.

You guys. When I first started playing LuvBug Learning games, I was in the family room all by myself. Just sitting on the sofa playing social emotional learning games. My phone is usually on “silent,” but, this time, the volume was turned all the way up so that I could get the full experience of LuvBug Learning.

My kids wandered away from their activities to come watch the game I was playing! They wanted to play, too!
Of course, I had to take advantage of the excitement. You would’ve done the same, right?! I handed my phone over to one kid and then handed the iPad over to the other so they both could play. They both had a blast and even commented about how cute the characters were. In addition, they were both able to learn the games easily and didn’t even seem to notice that they were actually learning.
Score!
