Rolife Super Creator Golden Wheat Bakery Review

As part of the Timberdoodle Blog Team, I have received complimentary access to this product. I have not been compensated for my time reviewing the product and producing this review. I have not been influenced in any way and my opinions on this product are my own.

Having the opportunity to learn through hands-on activities is one of our favorite perks of homeschooling! We, of course, do use a number of books and writing activities in our daily homeschool lessons, but there’s just something special about including hands-on activities – like building kits, art projects, and following recipes – that makes the homeschooling experience meaningful, memorable, and fun!

Thanks to Timberdoodle, my kids and I got to put together the Rolife Super Creator Golden Wheat Bakery Kit. This open-and-go building kit combines a number of things we love (like baked goods!) making it a well-rounded educational activity.

Let’s chat a bit more about our experience, m’kay?

Rolife Super Creator Bakery Set

There are actually a number of Rolife Super Creator building kits, but the Golden Wheat Bakery Kit in particular is included as one of Timberdoodle’s Curriculum Kits! Created for ages 8 and up, this DIY kit includes everything required to create a pretty adorable miniature version of a bakery shop.

Yep – everything! I was surprised by this, too! I’ve purchased a number of similar “miniature house” kits similar to the Golden Wheat Bakery Kit only to be disappointed after opening because I had to personally supply a specific type of glue or search through my craft supplies to find scissors appropriate for cutting out the tiniest pieces of paper decor.

Even with various science experiment kits or art kits I’ve purchased for homeschooling – it’s not unusual that they require me to order some ingredient or an art tool not included in the kit.

It can really be a bummer to be excited to do an activity only to have to spend more money and wait for some other “must have” component to arrive.

You guys, this Golden Wheat Bakery set? Open and go! OPEN. and. GO!

I may be too excited about this, but true open and go activities are a rare find these days, you know?

Included Parts

The Golden Wheat Bakery Kit has the following inside the box:

  • an instruction manual
  • plastic tweezers
  • 10 bags of materials, each individually numbered (this makes it SO easy to figure out which parts are needed to complete the set in order)

LOVE having bags clearly marked by number! This made it super easy to follow the construction instructions. (Try saying that 10 times fast…wink, wink)

Our Experience with the Golden Wheat Bakery Set

First, I gotta tell you – my boys (ages 11 & 13) finished this kit together, start to finish, in just under 2 hours. How sweet is that?

Having the patience to read through instructions, and follow them correctly, is a skill we’re continuously working on. Sometimes instructions can be overwhelming and we just “feel” like we know all the steps to put something together, right? I get it.

Thankfully, the Golden Wheat Bakery set came with instructions that were pretty easy to follow. There were some times that steps were missed (like, the bakery oven doors have to be put together in a specific sequence), but mistakes were easy to fix and, if you ask me, served as important learning opportunities.

Thank goodness for easy-to-follow instructions! See those orange dots, too? They’re double sided stickers – no need for glue in this kit!

While the set was likely designed to be completed by one person, having my boys complete it together gave them an opportunity to problem solve, practice patience (another skill we’re always working on, amiright?!), and chat about future career goals.

Both my boys love getting in the kitchen to create delicious meals & baked goods, but my oldest has always chatted about opening his own sandwich shop one day. He’s even created a logo, a mascot, and a loose business plan complete with ideas for marketing! Completing the Rolife Golden Wheat Bakery set we got from Timberdoodle helped him to get even more ideas for his potential future business! Pretty cool, huh?

They even had to build the actual room structure! So cool!

What We Enjoyed

I’m sure you’ve realized by now that my kids really enjoyed putting this kit together. If I had to share the top 3 reasons I’m glad we included this kit in our homeschool activities, I’d have to say:

  1. Easy-to-Follow Instructions: The end result was pretty detailed, but the step-by-step instructions made this Golden Wheat Bakery Kit pretty easy to complete while encouraging strengthening of problem-solving skills and patience while taking turns (yes, I know many may not have the option of having multiple kids complete the one kit, but this was our experience!).
  2. Screen-Free Fun: Many of our homeschool activities & lessons are completed through online activities, so I’m definitely pleased to have found an activity that kept the attention of my kids for a fairly extended amount of time.
  3. Quality Materials: Unlike other miniature kits out there, this miniature bakery kit is not something crafted of flimsy materials. The cardstock pieces are sturdy, the miniature baked goods are detailed…and there’s even an electrical portion (the sign and the oven light up!). This is something the kids will want to hang onto and perhaps include during creative play with action figures.

YAY for teamwork!

What We Were Surprised By

That’s a strange name for a heading right? After reading through a “what we enjoyed” section, you’d expect me to share “what we didn’t enjoy,” right? Honestly, though, my kids and I did enjoy the entire kit – saying otherwise just wouldn’t be true.

There is, however, one thing we would change about this kit: the lack of a ceiling.

The kit includes an adorable ceiling light but, because we didn’t have a ceiling or roof, we weren’t able to include the ceiling light. I somewhat understand why – each Rolife kit is designed to be a part of a collection of miniature rooms placed on top of, and next to, each other to create somewhat of a miniature mall or shopping center.

Isn’t the completed Golden Wheat Bakery adorable?!

Because of this, the individual sets do not come with an included ceiling. Instead, they are sold separately. From what I can tell, pricing is fairly reasonable. My boys just wish they had been able to “install” the ceiling light without having to purchase a ceiling.

It’s really not a big deal, but it’s worth mentioning.

Extending this Activity

While this Rolife Kit is included in a Timberdoodle Curriculum Set, you may want to extend the learning a bit more! There are many ways you could do just this, but here are a few ideas for you:

  • Family History: Do you have any family baked good recipes that have been passed down through generations? Break ’em out of the recipe box and get baking! Pairing the Golden Wheat Bakery set with family recipes could open up a line of communication about your family tree and memories while building upon math skills (y’know – with ingredient measurements), ability to follow directions, and more!
  • Food History: My family and I? We’re self-confessed foodies. Consider completing this kit while learning about the science behind yeast, the history behind some of the most well-known food brands (we LOVE The Foods that Built America series), or even why some holidays (like Passover) do not permit yeast foods to be consumed during the celebration.
  • Careers: Since the kit results in a miniature bakery set, consider chatting about future career goals! Who knows – your child may discover a love of construction, pastry arts, or even marketing while putting the kit together!
