Fun Printable Physical Activity Cards for Kids [Free Download]

Move and Groove Physical Activity Cards for Kids Cover Image

Looking for a fun and easy way to get your kids moving? Physical activity cards can be a fantastic tool to encourage the kids to stay active while having fun! These simple, printable cards provide a variety of opportunities for kids to move their bodies while listening to some tunes!

Do you remember Physical Education classes growing up? I was never a fan. I mean unless we were going to (dangerously) fly across the room on one of those little scooters, I was NOT interested. How I loved a class with the scooters, though!

Anyways, as an adult, not much has changed. I’ll walk around a theme park or shopping center all day long, but I’m not interested in walking on a treadmill. I’ll dance through an entire concert (hello, Backstreet Boys!), but I’m not about to sign up for a dance class at the gym.

Maybe it’s a result of growing up in the 90s when fad diets & exercise programs were all the rage? No clue, but I know I can’t be alone in this feeling!

Just like learning is made meaningful, memorable, and fun with the use of hands-on activities like board games, traveling near & far, and good friends, physical activity is is better when it’s accompanied by…music!

Everything is better with music, amiright?!

So, if you’ve been trying to figure out how to get the kids more active, I have a feeling you’re going to love my (free) printable physical activity cards for kids!

Let’s chat a bit about how to incorporate them into your days, shall we?

Educational Benefits of Listening to Music

Why have I paired exercise for kids with music? Well, besides the mere fact that music makes everything better (yes, that’s an official fact that’s been determined by yours truly), music can have all sorts of educational benefits like:

  • enhancing memory: music stimulates the brain, enhancing memory & learning capabilities. When my kids were tiny and I was teaching them important information, like our home address and my cell number, I’d make up a little song for each piece of information. To this day, they can still sing my cell phone number song and the address of our NJ home!
  • boosting creativity & imagination: music encourages creative thinking and imagination! Listening to different genres of music, different artists, and even music in different languages can encourage kids to think outside the box.
  • improving language skills: exposure to a variety of song lyrics can enhance vocabulary, pronunciation, and comprehension. No wonder I loved when CDs used to come with the lyric booklets!

  • promoting emotional & social development: music can help kids understand and express emotions! I’m sure we all have songs that remind us of certain people, places, and moments when we hear them, right? Group activities like singing in a choir (any other choir kids here?!) or playing in a band can also teach teamwork & cooperation.
  • enhancing cognitive skills: listening to music can improve a variety of cognitive functions such as spatial-temporal skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving…these all come in handy for subjects like math & science!

When you use my Move & Groove cards with the kids, they’ll benefit from physical activity as well as the educational benefits of music!

Fun Exercise for Kids

By now, you’re probably ready to print out the Move & Groove physical activity cards for the kids and get the tunes cranked up, right?!

Before we get into the all that, you should know that there are a few things that might come in handy in making this activity a success. To get started with this printable set (and so many printables from myself and other homeschooling resources), you may find the following to be helpful:

  • A printer: we have an older version of this Epson EcoTank printer and, let me tell you…it’s worth it’s weight in gold. Not only does it do a great job printing, but I’ve saved a ton of dinero on ink. I’ve printed thousands of pages on my printer and have only had to replace the ink once so far. They’re that good.
  • Cardstock: I always suggest stocking up on white cardstock for printables that you’re bound to use over and over again. Using cardstock will make the printables sturdier (more sturdy? Are these even words?) than printing on standard printer paper.
  • A Laminator: Laminate your cardstock printables and they’ll be indestructible (disclaimer: not an official fact). I have an older version of this thermal laminator and can happily say that it’s served me well.
  • Binder Rings: Save yourself from the possibility of losing parts of the printable & help keep them organized by placing each set on a binder ring.

In addition to the supplies for the actual printables, keep in mind that it could be beneficial to have things like a hula hoop, a ball, radio, etc. to do the activities on the cards. You’re more than welcome to make changes to the activities as needed, of course!

While doing the fun movement activities, remember that you can take the activity a step further by learning more about a specific type of music or instrument. You could also learn more about certain career paths (spoiler alert: a DJ and a rockstar are mentioned on the cards!), the history of certain genres of music, the origin of different dances (like the waltz and the conga!), and more.

These cards were created with the goal of allowing opportunities for fun exercise for kids at home, but they’re so much more than that!

About the Move & Groove Printables

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for! Let’s chat about these printables.

My kids and I tend to be on-the-go more often than not so we appreciate when fun activities are somewhat pocket-sized. The Move & Groove Cards are just that! They’re the same size as my conversation card printables, making them perfect for on-the-go fun whether you’re traveling across the sea or from the kitchen to the living room.

This freebie set comes with a total of 90 cards, each with a different pairing of a physical activity & music in some form.

Yes, I know that’s an incredible freebie! I’m not here to waste your time and do my best to provide my community with value, so go ahead and share this article with a friend so they can score this freebie, too!

Anyways, the printable has 90 different cards plus one cover card so you can easily distinguish the Move & Groove cards from the other sets of conversation cards you’ll inevitably collect.

Getting the Move & Groove cards is super easy! Just fill out the form below and they’ll be in your inbox faster than the speed of lightning. If you don’t see it in your inbox, be sure to check ALL the boxes because you know email providers like to put the good stuff in the junk section sometimes. Geeze.
