Learn About the Presidents: U.S. Presidents Research, Timeline & Worksheets for Homeschool
Learning about the Presidents of the United States doesn’t have to mean memorizing names and dates – it can be an engaging way to explore American history, leadership, and how our country has changed over time.
Whether you’re teaching upper elementary, middle school, or even high school, studying the presidents gives homeschool students a powerful foundation for understanding U.S. history. Each president faced unique challenges, made important decision, and left a lasting impact on the nation. That’s history worth knowing!
That’s why I created this Learn About the Presidents Printable Pack – a print & go resource designed to help students move beyond the simple facts and into real, interesting learning. Inside this pack, students will research each president, build a visual timeline, compare leaders across the different eras, and reflect on what makes strong leadership…and what may even cause our leaders to struggle from time to time.
This printable is flexible enough to use as a full unit study, a supplement to an existing U.S. history curriculum, or even a long-term project that grows with your child – making it perfect for homeschool families who want meaningful, memorable, & fun age-appropriate learning without busywork.

Why Learning about the Presidents Matters
Every president served during a unique moment in history. Some led during wars. Some guided the country through economic hardships. Some helped shape civil rights, technology, or foreign policy. When students study the presidents, they’re really learning about how America has changed over time.
Need a few more reasons why learning about the presidents is worth the time and effort spent? Why it can be especially powerful in the homeschool setting? Here you go!
It connects history into one timeline.
Instead of learning about United States history events in isolation, studying presidents helps kids see how things fit together. One leader’s decisions affect what comes next.

It builds critical thinking.
Not every president made perfect choices (do any of us?) – and that’s ok! Comparing leadership styles, challenges, and outcomes…even during elections and inaugurations…encourages the kids to think and analyze, not just memorize.
It grows civic understanding.
Understanding who our presidents were and what they did helps kids better understand how the government works and why leadership matters.
What’s Inside the Presidents Printable Pack
This printable was created to be flexible enough for different ages and learning styles, while still giving the kids real substance.

- U.S. Presidents Timeline Page: A visual way to place each president in history and see how events overlap.
- Comparison Chart: Great for helping the kids compare two presidents side-by-side and think about leadership differences.
- Eras of the Presidents Page: Students group presidents into historical time periods to better understand how America has changed and how leadership styles may have been impacted by the events of the world.

How to Use these Worksheets in Your Homeschool
One of the best things about this pack is that you don’t have to use all the worksheets at once. While activities about presidents are typically included during times like President’s Day, the 4th of July, and even Memorial Day, you can totally include U.S. History lessons at any time during the year! Here are a few easy ways to work them into your homeschool routine:
- One President at at Time
Pick one president per day or per week. Have your student:
- Research the president
- Fill out the profile page
- Add them to the timeline
This works beautifully for long-term projects and for keeping learning stress-free!
- Study by Historical Eras
Instead of going in order, focus on time periods like:
- Founding presidents
- Civil War & Reconstruction
- World Wars
- Modern America
This helps students see how leadership changed as the country changed.

Speaking of which, here are a few online resources you may consider including when having your kids research & learn about the presidents:
And a few books you may consider including:
- The Presidents Visual Encyclopedia from DK Books
- Timelines of Everything from DK Books
- American History: A Visual Encyclopedia from DK Books
Can you tell we love DK Books? They’re jam-packed with information and gorgeous photos & images. While they can likely be borrowed from your local library, we find they’re worth owning. They can be pricey, but do keep an eye on sites like Amazon & Thrift Books because they do go on sale from time to time.
- Make it Interactive
The Fast Facts cards can be used for:
- Memory Games
- Matching Activities
- Review Days
- Bulleting boards or notebooks
Learning sticks better when kids can move, sort, and interact with the material!

Happy Homeschooling!
You don’t need to make learning about the presidents – or homeschooling in general – perfect or complicated! Your child doesn’t need to fill out every line on every page for it to count as “real” learning. Some days they may write a lot. Some days they may just jot a few notes and talk it through with you – and that’s enough!
What matters most is that they’re learning to think about history, leadership and how our country has been shaped by real people making real decisions
Until next time, stay safe, & enjoy quality time with your family,
