When it comes to choosing an online homeschooling curriculum for the littles, activities have to be both fun & engaging. With Homeschool+, learning online is just that and more!

There seems to be a delicate balance to finding online learning options that are just the right amount of entertainment and education to keep the attention of Pre-K to 2nd grade children. We definitely want the kids to learn, but we also want to make sure that the activities they’re completing are quality and build upon one another.

Even more? Since kids within the Pre-K to 2nd grade levels are often at the pre and beginner reader levels, finding a homeschooling program they can easily navigate can be another challenge.

After spending some time exploring Homeschool+ with my own kids, I can honestly say the creators of Homeschool+ have taken all of these requirements, and then some, into consideration when building their online homeschooling platform.

About Homeschool+

Made by the creators of ABCmouse and Adventure Academy, Homeschool+ is an online learning platform designed for children in the Pre-K to 2nd grade age range. While their “My Reading Academy” and “My Math Academy” are the bread & butter of the program, Homeschool+ can be used as a complete homeschooling curriculum due to the inclusion of the following additional (optional) content areas:

  • Grammar and Writing
  • Animals and Habitats I & II
  • Think Like a Scientist
  • Systems of the Human Body
  • Science Experiments and Demonstrations
  • Community Citizenship I & II
  • Cultures and Places to Explore
  • Maps and Landmarks
  • First Spanish Words
  • Art: Colors and Shapes
It’s super easy for kids to find their assigned activities!

Not only does each subject include fun & interactive online activities, but offline extension activities are also available allowing kids to expand upon the skills they learned online. In addition, online activities also allow for some one-on-one parent-child time and I will always welcome those opportunities into my day! Building skills and family relationships all at once is definitely a win!

Patented Adaptive Learning System

Are you ready to hear about one of my favorite parts of Homeschool+? Yes, yes you are!

Ok, so I am all about working smarter and not harder. Life as a homeschooling parent is busy enough, so if there’s a way to make life easier and a little less stressful, we have to take advantage. Right?

The Homeschool+ curriculum has a patented adaptive learning system worked into its “My Reading Academy” and “My Math Academy” programs.

What does that mean? Well, the reading and math portions are pretty much “set it and forget it” meaning, when your child finishes a lesson, their next lesson will automatically be assigned based on their skill level. The lessons adapt to your child! You won’t need to worry that they’re moving along too quickly (or not fast enough) because of the Adaptive Learning System. So cool, right?

Record Keeping & Lesson Planning

If you happen to live in a state requiring detailed homeschooling records to be kept, you will definitely appreciate the thorough record keeping in your Homeschool+ Parent Dashboard. Student progress can be tracked by subject, lesson, and even down to the minute, allowing parents to see areas of academic need and and plan offline activities to enrich online learning.

In addition, while the Homeschool+ “My Math Academy” and “My Reading Academy” lessons will take care of themselves, parents have the ability to easily lesson plan a number of additional (optional) lessons in other content areas.

Our Experience Using Homeschool+

Figuring out grade levels while homeschooling can be…interesting. Since we tend to include lessons based on interests and skill levels (and not necessarily exact grade levels), I currently consider my youngest to typically be performing within the 2nd grade to 3rd grade levels. A former reluctant reader, he now enjoys reading materials including animals and mystical creatures. From time to time, he still struggles with some beginner math concepts, so I welcome practice in any form that will keep him happy & engaged.

While trying out Homeschool+, he was able to easily access various lessons and even seemed to enjoy them! The animated videos kept his attention, made him laugh, and even encouraged him to complete even more “free play” educational activities.

He also loved that he had the option of completing his activities either on his laptop or on my (highly coveted) iPad. Of course, he chose to do his activities on the iPad. Honestly, I didn’t even miss having access to the iPad myself. I was just happy that he was enjoying learning online!

Favorite Learning Activities

Two of his favorite activities on the Homeschool+ app were the videos and the art activities.

The videos were all educational in some way, but were still fun to watch. Some were animated, some were live action…some were a mix of both. I encouraged him to watch as many videos as he desired because I knew they were all safe and he tends to be a visual learner. I was just happy he was learning!

Another reason he enjoyed the videos? Well, he “can’t” watch videos about animals on our television because our beloved & adopted 7-year-old black lab, Cole, will bark like crazy at the sight of any animal on the screen. He was totally happy to “watch animal videos without Cole being able to see them!”

It’s the little things in life, I’m telling you!

I’m thinking the online art activities were a hit because they were no mess and provided nearly instant gratification. He didn’t even seem to mind that most of the options included a learning activity (like paint-by-number based on the sum of 2 single-digit numbers), so I consider that a win!

He was so proud to show off his completed paint-by-number!

Give Homeschool+ a Try!

If you’re in the market for an online learning platform that will not only encourage & foster a love of learning and academic success, you should definitely give Homeschool+ a try!

Homeschool+ currently offers a 10-day free trial, so there’s really no risk in trying it out. Afterwards, should you decide to continue including the Homeshool+ online learning curriculum in your homeschool, they offer both monthly and annual membership options.

Are you a parent of multiple children that could benefit from homeschooling with Homeschool+? You’ll be happy to learn that your account can include access for up to three children! How awesome is that?
