Encouragement for Homeschool Moms

Homeschooling can be a beautiful journey but, let’s be honest – it can also be difficult. Really difficult. It requires not only your time and energy, but also your heart and soul. And, while the world may not always see the full picture, you do – the messy mornings, the tears and frustration over learning a new math skill, the joy of a breakthrough moment, and the endless balancing act between teaching, parenting, and just being a plain ol’ human.

So, if you one has told you lately, let me be the one to say it – you are doing an incredible job.

Pssst… There’s a giveaway at the end of this article!

When You Feel Like You’re Not Enough…

Holy moly, I have totally been in this predicament. Every homeschool mom has! The days when the house is a mess, attitudes aren’t quite right, and the lessons didn’t quite go as expected. You question whether your kids are learning enough. You wonder if you’re the right person for the job. You question everything.

Here’s the truth: your presence, your effort, and your love matter more than any perfect curriculum ever could.

You don’t need to have all the answers – that’s what Pinterest is for. And Google. And all the educational resources available at the touch of a button. And fellow homeschool moms you get together with on sunny afternoons at the playground!

You don’t need to have a Pinterest-worthy homeschool space! You know, when we first started homeschooling, and were in the thick of de-schooling, I somehow got it in my head that the kids needed to have a space similar to a classroom for homeschooling. We transformed the basement into a learning area, complete with cabinets for homeschool supplies, desk areas, bookshelves, a center for group learning…and we ended up using it as an office!

Homeschool where you and the kids are comfortable. If you’re all comfortable on the sofa – homeschool there. If you’re all comfortable sitting at the kitchen table – homeschool there. If you’re all comfortable homeschooling at a picnic table in the backyard – go there! It’s the moments, the experience, and the information learned that matters the most…not necessarily the space.

You just need to keep showing up – and that’s exactly what you’ve been doing.

Learning Happens in the Everyday

While there are many curriculum options out there (many of which I use with my own kids), sometimes we forget that education is way more than textbooks and worksheets! It’s in the real conversations you have at the dinner table. It’s in the quiet moments reading together on the sofa. It’s in doubling a measurement while baking cookies, planting a garden, or exploring nature on walk!

Learning is life – and life is happening right now in your home. While we, as homeschool moms, are making sure our kids are learning plenty to support a successful life, we’re also encouraging a love of learning so that our kids actually want to learn…and know where to seek answers to their questions. Don’t underestimate the value of those “little” moments. They add up in ways that tests and checklists never could.

You’re Building More Than Academics

As a homeschool mom, you’re not just teaching your kids how to read and how to complete various math equations. You’re building character, strengthening family bonds, and helping your kids discover who they are and how they fit into the world.

That kind of work can’t necessarily be measured. It doesn’t show up on a report card, but it is sacred work.

Your homeschool may not look like someone else’s, and that’s ok! We’re all different, so why would our version of homeschool be the same as someone else’s?!

Makes sense, right? Your homeschool is beautiful because it’s yours. It’s built with love, one day at at time.

Take a Breath, Mama

If today feels like a struggle, that’s ok. Tomorrow is a fresh start. You’re allowed to rest. You’re allowed to grow. You’re allowed to learn alongside your kids!

Take a deep breath. Remind yourself of your homeschooling why. You’ve got what it takes – not because you’re perfect, but because you care. And, if you ask me, that’s more than enough.

You are not alone in this journey. In fact, the homeschool population seems to be growing every day. so, even if you have been struggling with finding “your people” (I’ve totally been there), have faith that you’ll find them soon!

You got this.
