Ever wished you could take your kids on a trip around the world without having to leave the comfort of your home? Around the World Stories may be the homeschool geography curriculum you’re been looking for! This unique educational platform blends storytelling, culture, and hands-on learning into no-prep, engaging experiences homeschool parents (and their kids) crave!
If you’ve taken a look through my site and social media accounts, it’s no surprise my family and I love to travel. We love visiting new-to-us places, trying new foods, & being immersed in the local culture. As much as we’d love to travel to new places more often than we do, it’s just not a feasible option.
I mean, the kids are involved in number of extracurricular activities & love spending time with their friends in their free time. There’s also one majorly annoying factor keeping us from traveling more – the fact that money hasn’t started growing on trees just yet. Come on, already!
In the meantime, we’ll take advantage of alternative opportunities for traveling…like Around the World Stories! Ever since we got access to their unique learning experiences, I’ve been chomping at the bit to tell you about it – it’s so cool! Let’s get to it, shall we?

What is Around the World Stories?!
Around the World Stories is going to be your go-to for immersive, memorable elementary geography lessons. It may be a bit presumptuous of me to say that, but, I swear…it’s that awesome.
Basically, Around the World Stories gives homeschooling parents a super easy, fun, & effective way to introduce their kids to other countries while encouraging them to be curious learners. Within their online platform, kids (and parents…not gonna lie – I learned a bunch!) are able to learn about a country (they currently have 21 to choose from) by completing a number of fun activities including:
- audio stories: Each country has four audio stories about a child from that country. The stories are around 30 minutes each and can be listened to directly on the website or they can be downloaded. If your family enjoys listening to stories & podcasts while in the car, you could totally download the stories, save them to your phone, and play via bluetooth through your car speakers!
- fun facts & exploration: Learn interesting facts about the selected country, explore the geography, and discover traditional foods, games, and more!
- celebrations: Learn about the various country-specific festivities & traditions!
- food: Why learn about a country if you’re not going to treat your tastebuds?! As a family of foodies, this was one of our favorite parts of including Around the World Stories into our homeschool day – trying out cultural kid-friendly recipes for ourselves!
- printables: This section includes printables for the recipes, coloring pages, maps, games, etc.
Real Family Learning
While the stories within the Around the World Stories platform were created for kids between the ages of 5 and 11, I can assure you this resource can certainly be enjoyed by older kids…and even their parents. It’s one of those unique finds that can really be utilized for, and appreciated by, all ages!
One of the biggest strengths of Around the World Stories is how easily it fits into everyday life. Whether you’re listening to the stories during car rides, during quiet times (maybe doing a puzzle together?), or part of your homeschool curriculum, it creates a shared learning experience that feels more like entertainment than schoolwork.
The Subscription
To include Around the World Stories in your homeschool, accessing the resources is as easy as signing up for an account. There are currently two options to choose from:
- Explorer Monthly Subscription: subscribers receive 1 ticket per month, allowing access to learn about one new country per month. This is billed monthly.
- World Traveler Subscription: subscribers receive 12 tickets at once, allowing immediate access to learn about 12 countries. This is billed annually and does provide a bit of a savings over the Explorer Monthly Subscription option.
Once you have an account, and have selected your subscription plan, additional tickets can be purchased at any time.
Our Around the World Stories Experience
When I told my boys that we were going to try out a new-to-us program to learn about different countries, my 12-year-old was the first to ask “can we learn about Germany?” You know I replied with an enthusiastic “of course!”
I had a feeling that’s what he would ask. Why Germany? Take one look at my last name! My husband’s family immigrated from Germany, right through Ellis Island, shortly after World War II. My kids have grown up listening to stories about my husband’s grandparents, his beloved Oma & Opa, ever since they were born.
So, of course we were going to learn about Germany with Around the World Stories! I selected the Germany story using one of my tickets and we got started right away.
You guys, Around the World Stories made it super simple to learn about Germany in such a stress-free, organized way. First, we listed to 4 audio stories featuring a young girl named Maja. While listening to the stories, we’d get the dishwasher emptied, handwash dishes, clean things up around the house…you know – the necessary chores my kids love to hate. To my pleasant surprise, there was significantly less fighting, complaining, arguing, etc. when my kids were cleaning up while listening to the stories. I may have cracked the code!
Since the stories were about 30 minutes in length, we did spread the stories out over a few days.
After listening to all of the stories, we started the “Exploring Germany” & “Celebrations” section of the unit study. The information was broken down into organized boxes, often featuring a photograph and/or a short video with more information. We ended up heading over to YouTube for more information on a number of the sections, but that’s definitely not required. Around the World Stories just did a great job piquing their interest and making them want to learn more. Sweet!

Being a foodie family, it’s no surprise that we absolutely appreciated a learning section devoted to the food of Germany…complete with recipes! My 14 year old tried his hand at making some homemade pretzels and, let me tell you, they turned out absolutely delicious! While my 12 year old was more than happy to indulge, we also made sure there were plenty left to share with friends at one of their in-person classes the following day. I have a feeling the soft pretzel recipe will end up in our binder of favorite recipes!
In addition to all of the “informational” sections of the Germany story, we also utilized plenty of the printables sprinkled throughout both the fun facts & stories and provided in an organized “printables” tab. This made is super easy for me to scroll through and select all the printables we wanted to use.
All in all, I’d say it took us about a week to go through all of the information and complete a number of activities. I anticipate future country stories to take the same amount of time and will be sprinkling them in our summer days to help keep the boys learning & engaged in the air conditioning.
Why Around the World Stories Works so Well as a Homeschool Geography Curriculum
While there are so many curriculum options that focus on a single subject, Around the World Stories is one that includes opportunities to learn multiple subjects…and they do it well. These stories naturally support:
- geography & social studies
- cultural awareness & global citizenship
- listening & reading comprehension
- family discussions
- critical thinking
- life skills
- math reinforcement…and so much more.

Around the World Stories does something that can be pretty difficult to achieve – they make geography feel alive! They make geography interesting & hands-on! They make kids actually look forward to learning! That, my friend, is pretty hard to come by.
In addition, Around the World Stories makes lesson planning SO easy! Do you know how many times I have spent hours piecing together a unit study on any specific topic? Scouring the internet for fun activities and accurate information? SO. MANY. HOURS. Around the World Stories is an absolute gem of a time & sanity saver for busy homeschooling parents that value a quality education for their kids!
Try a Story with Your Kids!
You guys! Around the World Stories has done something (else) pretty amazing – they’ve provided me with a coupon code so you can get your first story ticket for free. Go ahead, check out the 21 country stories currently available. After you’ve selected your story, add it to your shopping cart and use the code STORIES26 at checkout to get your first ticket for free! What a nice way to “try before you buy,” right? I may be getting ahead of myself, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you went ahead and signed up for a subscription after learning about the first country with the kids. Seriously – we’ve enjoyed learning about Germany that much. Next up, I think we’ll learn about England (where some of my family is from), Italy (who doesn’t love Italian food?!), and then…Austria? The boys have been wanting to watch The Sound of Music, so that would be perfect for learning about Austria beforehand!
Happy Homeschooling!
Around the World Stories isn’t just another educational resource you’ll purchase and never use. Been there, done that. Nope, they provide a meaningful, memorable, and fun learning experience for the entire family. By combining storytelling with cultural exploration, it helps kids see the world in a way that’s engaging and exciting.
If your goal is to raise curious, compassionate, and globally aware kids, this is truly a tool worth considering. It turns learning into an adventure!
