Isn’t Halloween just the best? Kids get to play dress-up, enjoy some candy, and be a little spooky. But let’s not stop there. This Halloween, why not add a touch of creativity and fun with Halloween coloring bookmarks? They’re not just simple crafts; they’re a way to encourage literacy and creativity!

Coloring isn’t always about staying inside the lines and being mindful of crayon color selection (live a little!). Oh no, there are so many ways kids can benefit from taking part in coloring activities!

Coloring inside the lines can be such a delicate task! Keeping the crayons within the lines of a coloring image isn’t just about creating a pretty picture. As kids hold the crayons, they’re strengthening the muscles in their hands. This not only improves hand-eye coordination, but also improves dexterity – skills that are super important for daily tasks like tying shoes or writing.

So, the next time your child asks for just 5 more minutes to color, remember that coloring is more than “just” play; it’s prepping them for so many life skills!

Encourages Creativity and Imagination

Let’s circle back to chatting about crayon color selection, m’kay? Coloring allows kids to tap into their creative side, using colors to express how they see the world…or even how they’d like to see the world! By selecting colors used to fill a coloring page (or bookmark!), they’re telling a story through shades of color. This encourages imaginative thinking and can open the door to an interest in the arts.

Promotes Focus and Concentration

Focus and concentration, huh? Guess I should start coloring more often!

These days, kids are susceptible to many distractions that finding activities that encourage focus is essential. Coloring requires kids to concentrate on details and make decisions, often resulting in a longer attention span.

The focus required to color can aid in improving their ability to concentrate on other tasks, too, like completing a book report or chores at home. It’s like a mini workout for their brains!

Making Halloween Coloring Bookmarks

Don’t even worry about having to design the bookmarks yourself! I’ve taken care of all that (it’s one of my favorite parts of being a content creator!), so you just need to gather all the materials you’ll need. I bet you even have most of the materials lying around your home.

To complete the Halloween bookmarks, you’ll need:

• Paper: Sturdy card stock works best, but you can definitely use standard printer paper.
• Coloring Tools: Colored pencils and markers are my tools of choice, especially if you plan on laminating the bookmarks for extended use (the laminator could melt a crayon design…and you don’t want that!)
• Scissors: For cutting out the bookmarks
• Laminator & Materials: A simple home laminator & laminator sheets should work great!

Step-by-Step Instructions

Incorporating these kinda spooky Halloween bookmarks into your homeschool day is super simple! Here’s what to do:

1. Get Access to the Halloween Coloring Bookmarks: you can do just this by requesting them below!
2. Print out the Halloween Bookmarks: The file includes 8 different Halloween bookmark designs, with 4 designs per page. Print as many bookmarks as you’ll need for your activity!
3. Cut out the Bookmarks: This is totally preference, but I like to cut out the bookmarks before coloring. We’ll often bring the bookmarks to homeschool co-op activities, so I need to prep the activity for multiple children. If you’re completing the activity at home, it may work better to have the kids color the full page of bookmarks before cutting out. Again, the choice is yours!
4. Laminate (Optional): Laminating the bookmarks allows them to withstand plenty of use.
5. Read a Book: Find some spooky Halloween-themed books and start reading! The bookmarks will help to save where the kids (or you) left off.

Incorporating Halloween Bookmarks into Activities

I mean, you could totally use the printable Halloween coloring bookmarks to fill up some “empty” time in your day, but why do that when there are even more exciting options like:

• Making a Literary Connection: Print out some of our free Halloween-themed lined paper printables and have the kids create their very own Halloween short story or poem inspired by the designs of their bookmarks!
• Hosting a Bookmark Exchange: Assign each attendee a different holiday and have them bring bookmarks themed to that holiday to exchange. Everyone leaves the party with a year’s worth of themed bookmarks. How fun is that?! I bet you could even find some other holiday bookmark options available on this very blog {wink wink, nudge nudge}
• As a Halloween Party Favor: Get your homeschool friends together and have a Halloween party! After playing games and eating some tasty treats, have the attendees make their own Halloween coloring bookmark as a favor.
