Why Use Travel Brochures for Kids?

If you’re looking for a way to sneak a little learning into something that actually feels like fun, travel brochures are a goldmine. They invite kids to imagine, plan, research, and create something with their own two hands. Plus, there’s just something about holding a neat, finished brochure that makes their pretend journey feel more real. Here’s why I love using travel brochures with my own kids.

Educational Benefits

Travel brochures are a secret weapon for teaching geography, cultures, and history without a single snooze. When kids work with a travel brochure, they do more than just cut and paste:

  • Maps and Landmarks: Kids learn to identify where a city or country is on the map, along with highlights like famous buildings or natural wonders.
  • Local Traditions and Food: Writing out what a place is famous for gets kids curious about food, traditions, and language.
  • Research Practice: To fill out their brochure, they often poke around books or the internet, sharpening those research skills. (With a little guidance, of course.)
  • Connecting the Dots: They understand why places matter, what makes each location special, and how one spot connects to another.

If you’re hoping to squeeze some real learning out of playtime, travel brochures make it easy and fun to cover a lot of ground.

Fostering Creativity and Imagination

Give a child some colored pencils, scissors, and a template, and just watch what happens. Making their own travel brochure turns every kid into a storyteller and artist:

  • Creative Choices: They get to pick where to “travel,” what sights to feature, and even invent mascots or make up silly stories about what happens on their trip.
  • Design Skills: Drawing the perfect palm tree or adding stickers gives them a chance to practice visual design. It’s like art class, but with a passport.
  • Writing with Purpose: Instead of random sentences, they write to share ideas and convince readers (real or pretend) to visit their chosen spot.

The best part? There are no wrong answers. Every child’s brochure feels completely unique—like a little snapshot of how they see the world.

Encouraging Family Participation

Travel brochures can be a family event, not just a solo project. When everyone joins in, things get even better:

  • Joint Planning: Whether it’s for a real vacation or an imaginary one, families can brainstorm destinations, activities, and “must-sees” together.
  • Sharing Stories: Let each kid present their brochure at dinner or during a family night. It turns a simple project into a show-and-tell moment.
  • Teamwork Skills: Working on one brochure as a group builds cooperation. Everyone can have a job, whether it’s cutting, pasting, or hunting for fun facts.

If you’re searching for something that gets everyone talking, laughing, or maybe even dreaming up a new family adventure, travel brochures hit the mark.

With just a printable template, some pencils, and a little time together, you’ve got an activity that checks off creativity, learning, and family bonding all at once.

Overview of Template Sections and Features

Let’s break down the main pages and features your child will discover:

  • Cover Page: Every good adventure starts with a welcoming cover. Kids can write their name, choose their travel destination, and even design their own “logo” or draw a cover image. It helps set the stage for an imaginary journey before anything else.
  • Destination Information: This section lets kids share quick facts about their chosen spot. There’s space for things like location name, traveling dates, how to get there, and a “Did You Know?” fact box. This nudges them to do a little research and makes the brochure feel real.
  • Things to See and Do: Here’s where imagination comes to life. Kids list their must-see attractions, favorite foods to try, or cool local events. The prompts keep it simple, so even hesitant writers won’t feel stuck.
  • Packing List: Even pretend trips need a good packing list! There’s a checklist just for this. Kids get to decide what’s important—maybe a favorite hat, snacks, or even a map. They can doodle items, write them in, or both.
  • Customizable Sections: Sometimes a child wants to add something special. The brochure leaves extra space for personal touches, like “My Top Three Memories,” a “Postcard Home” message, or room for more facts and drawings. Flexibility is built right in, so no two brochures ever look the same.

By laying out each feature in an easy-to-understand way, the template encourages kids to fill it up without feeling overwhelmed. Each part serves as a gentle prompt and keeps things moving so no page ever gets too tough.

How to Put the Travel Brochure Together

To get the most out of the Travel Brochure Template, here’s some tips:

  • print at home: we bought our Epson Eco-Tank a few years ago and it’s an absolute workhorse of a printer. The ink lasts an amazingly long time! It definitely one of my favorite homeschooling items.
  • print on cardstock: while standard printer paper would work just fine, if you print on cardstock, the brochure will be sturdy & likely last longer!
  • make it colorful: after cutting out and completing each desired section of the travel brochure, glue each section on a piece of construction paper.
  • consider laminating: to help the travel brochures last even longer, consider laminating them after the kids have put them all together. Since many laminators use a heat process, I also suggest avoiding coloring the brochures with crayons &, instead, using colored pencils or markers.
