Are your kids interested in taking coding classes, but you have no idea how to code or where to even find quality coding classes? Well, welcome to my world! Been there, done that, but now I can help you out!
My kids are all about technology. With all the technological options out there for learning, playing, and working, itβs really no surprise. Their generation has grown up with technology and, naturally, they canβt get enough.
While so many of us (myself included!) are happy to βjustβ consume technology, itβs pretty cool to have kids that want to learn the ins and outs of all things electronic. As parents, weβre doing everything in our power to encourage our kids to follow their interests and learn, right? I have been on the search for quality coding classes and have recently discovered a pretty awesome online gem.
Enter: MYTEK LAB. A fully-online option for coding classes, MYTEK LAB offers engaging live online technology instruction for grades 3-12.

Why Take Coding Classes?
My two boys have been taking classes with MYTEK LAB recently and have been learning so much. Even though their technology interests are vastly different, taking these coding classes have proven to be beneficial to both.
My youngest son is a self-proclaimed βtrue gamer.β Whenever he has downtime, if heβs not watching a movie or playing with his LEGOs, heβs playing video games. He aspires to be a YouTube star and wants to build his own video games. Both of these aspirations require a certain level of technology knowledge, so the MYTEK LAB coding classes have certainly been beneficial for him.
My oldest sonβs world practically revolves around animatronics. He loves learning about the history of animatronics, how theyβve improved over the years, and dreams of building his very own animatronics one day. For now, heβs been using cardboard boxes and random household items for his creations, but I will be completely amazed if he doesnβt end up with a career in animatronics in the future. Because of this, taking quality coding classes is definitely important for him!
If youβre reading this article, chances are that you have a child that could benefit from taking coding classes, too! From here, Iβm going to share some of the pros and cons of MYTEK LAB and provide details on getting your kids enrolled in MYTEK LAB classes as well!

Pros of MYTEK LAB Coding Classes
During our experience with MYTEK LAB classes, my boys and I experienced quite a few positives. Of course, every experience is unique but, as a homeschooling family, MYTEK LAB seemed to check many boxes in the βprosβ category for us. Just to share a few, these are the top reasons why the MYTEK LAB coding classes worked well for our family:
Coding classes are all online
We are a busy family and, while weβre totally open to taking in-person classes, if thereβs a chance to take a quality class online, weβre going to seize that opportunity! Because MYTEK LAB classes are all online, my boys could complete their lessons in their natural habitat: in the family room while wearing comfy pajamas. (you know your kids would do the same!)

PERFECT for busy families
Can you tell weβre busy? We spend a good amount of time traveling and going on adventures with our homeschool community, so we donβt always get to complete lessons during typical βschool hours.β MYTEK LAB classes are PERFECT for busy families because, while the kids do have the opportunity to take live classes, they can also watch the recorded replay and complete lessons when they have time.
Busy families also tend to have very full calendars and could, possibly, lose track of time. Life happens, itβs ok. MYTEK LAB is on top of it, though. During the semester of classes, I received an email from MYTEK LAB about 15 minutes before each live session started. Then, after the session was over, I received an email letting me know that the recorded class was available. Sending courtesy emails like this is super considerate and shows that the owners of MYTEK LAB really do care about their students!
Coding classes are reasonably priced
MYTEK LAB programming classes are very competitively priced. Like I mentioned previously, I have looked for coding classes for my kids before and the majority of the pricing was at least 5 times what the MYTEK LAB classes currently are. Wild, right?
For the value and instruction provided in the classes, these coding classes are at a great price point and should be pretty affordable for many homeschool families. If, for whatever reason, classes arenβt affordable, MYTEK LAB does offer scholarship opportunities, too!
Classes cover information I canβt teach well!
There is absolutely no shame in outsourcing a class for your kids. Just because youβre a homeschooling parent does not mean that you need to be the sole instructor for your kids.
Prior to my kids taking these classes, I knew of coding, but didnβt know enough to confidently teach my kids. It just wasnβt happening. I love that the MYTEK LAB instructors are proficient in this area of technology and are able to teach my kids a subject area that I am not able to.

Cons of MYTEK LAB Coding Classes
Even though my kids enjoyed their MYTEK LAB coding classes, there are a few things they mentioned that they felt werenβt so great. Keep in mind that these “cons” are our opinions and, in the grand scheme of things, could really be no big deal for other families. In keeping full transparency, I felt it would be beneficial to share, though.
Classes are on the longer side
Each coding class tends to be around 45 minutes to one hour. There’s a good reason for this length as there was often a lot of information to cover, but my kids often needed to take a break about halfway through each class. If the classes were only offered in a live setting, that wouldβve been an issue, but since recorded classes are available afterwards, this really wasnβt a big deal.
Just know that, if your kids are more on the wiggly side, they may require a break or two during the classes.
Multiple screens could be helpful
Since these coding classes were often presented alongside the use of an app or computer program, having multiple screens available would be helpful. Without an extra screen, students would need to switch between tabs on their laptop or computer and that, especially during a live class, could get overwhelming for some.
All in all, my kids have really enjoyed taking their online MYTEK LAB classes. They’re consistently growing in their coding confidence and look forward to each new class! If you have any questions about these awesome coding classes, please leave a comment below and I’ll do my best to help you out.
Until next time, stay safe & enjoy quality time with your family,
