Isn’t it wild how your child can be a carbon copy of you in some ways, but the exact opposite in others? Like, my 12 year old son has the same sense of humor and entrepreneurial spirit as me, but he also makes it a point to check on the stock market every day…and he knows what he’s looking at and what he’s looking for. Not only is he interested in all things finance, but he wants to learn more.
Me? My expertise in finance is pretty minimal. I’m awesome at finding deals on things my family and I want and need, and I’m pretty good at starting and building an online business (if I do say so myself), but you definitely won’t find me researching stock trends or learning about alternative forms of currency.
No surprise, when an opportunity to take one of Mr. D Math’s latest and greatest – an online course on blockchain – presented itself, my son was all in!

Why Learn About Blockchain?
You guys, when I first heard the word “blockchain,” I legit thought it was some pattern for making friendship bracelets. When I took a further look, I learned that blockchain is, in a nutshell, a secure system that records transactions across computers.
Today, blockchain is being used in areas such as:
- digital identity protection
- supply chain tracking
- smart contracts
- healthcare records
- voting systems
- banking & finance
- cybersecurity
Having been around nearly 20 years now, it’s a pretty safe bet to say that Blockchain…and all it’s being used for…isn’t going anywhere for a while. Technology will only continue to evolve and, honestly, it’s important that our kids have an understanding of blockchain concepts.
Why?
Staying on top of technological advances can help our kids to have an advantage in future college programs and careers.
After all, we learned how to write emails and use search engines some *cough cough* 25 years ago and look at us now – many of us are running full-blown online businesses!
Especially if our kids are already interested in learning more about technology? Don’t hold them back! Encourage them to learn as much as possible so they can stay on top of the trends and, perhaps, get an advantage over their peers when it comes to pursuing careers in technology…like blockchain!
For parents of tweens & teens who already enjoy computers, technology, gaming, investing, or engineering, blockchain can be an especially engaging topic to learn about because it combines multiple disciplines, including:
- computer science
- mathematics
- economics
- digital security
- problem solving
- critical thinking
At the very least, have the kids learn about blockchain so they can help their parents avoid scams and such when they’re older.
I joke, but elder fraud really is an issue…one that’ll likely continue to grow if this next generation isn’t well-versed on blockchain!
Blockchain for Beginners: About the Course
Your brain may already be spinning. I get it. Since my son started taking Mr. D Math’s Blockchain Beginner course, he’s been sharing what he’s learned in his online courses. I’m totally glad he’s learning, but I’m also thrilled that I decided to outsource this topic.
No shame – if my kids want to learn about something I don’t feel comfortable teaching them, it’s getting outsourced!

What We Liked About this Blockchain Course
For a topic that can be considered overwhelming to learn my son and I certainly appreciate how this Mr D Math course is divided up into easily manageable sections. The information is presented in bite-sized pieces, making it easier for my son to understand the new-to-him concepts. We also love that the courses are all taught through pre-recorded videos, allowing him to pause a video, re-wind, or even rewatch if needed.
Like I said before, blockchain technology isn’t going anywhere. I definitely see the value in including such a course in our homeschool days (we’ll be continuing the course over the summer) and realize that it couldn’t have been easy to produce such a course in a manner that the information can be digested by tweens & teens. That’s an accomplishment, don’t you think?!
In addition, although we didn’t need to ask any questions, I definitely appreciate that this course (and other’s from Mr. D Math) include access to the Mr. D Math Helper.

Mr. D Math Helper
The Mr. D Math Helper is all about helping students to figure things out on their own. Sure, they’re there to help clarify information and such, but they’re giving kids the tools to solve an issue, a concern, etc. on their own. What an invaluable life skill, right?!
Within the coursework, there’s a 24/7 virtual tutor that’s fully synched to the coursework. This ensures students get support where they need it most and can get step-by-step assistance when requested. The virtual tutor asks students questions to help identify their need, breaks problems down, and guides their thinking so they can build real understanding.

My kids don’t need to keep to a strict schedule and can learn at a pace that is comfortable to them. These online courses are also great for families that include educational travel into their days – all that’s really needed is an internet connection and a device!

Preparing Kids for the Future
Many homeschooling parents, myself included, look for meaningful electives & curriculum that go beyond traditional coursework. We want our kids to learn information that will actually benefit them in the future. A simple request, right? Well, a blockchain course can definitely help prepare our kids for the future.
I can only imagine the career options our kids will have in the future. Many of them likely don’t even exist yet! The future job market will likely continue evolving alongside advancements in artificial intelligence, blockchain, automation, and security. Introducing our kids to these subjects now can only help them to become more adaptable and informed adults in the future.
Are your kids familiar with blockchain yet? Are they interested in learning more about block chain, cybersecurity, and cryptocurrency? The Blockchain Beginner course from Mr. D Math is definitely worth checking out!
