Whether you’re just getting started with using positive affirmations for kids or if your kids are seasoned affirmers, we have some great resources and suggestions for you and your family! Join us for a chat about the importance of positive affirmations for kids, how to use positive affirmations for kids, how to get our “60 Powerful Positive Affirmations for Kids” freebie, and…last, but certainly not least, how to get our 60 Powerful Positive Affirmations for Kids coloring pages!

Why use Positive Affirmations for Kids?

Even if your kids already seem pretty resilient, it’s certainly not a bad idea to introduce and use positive affirmations with them. Their little brains are sponges and soak up each and every influence that’s around them. If you can do your best to ensure there are more positive than negative influences, you’re going to do that, right?

Enter: Positive Affirmations for Kids. Just as we, as adults, may tell ourselves “everything will be ok, I will get through this” in tough times, affirmations can help kids to believe in themselves and can even increase their self-esteem and feelings of self-worth. I am not a professional at all (disclaimer), but, I totally believe in the power of affirmations for kids…and adults.

We can all agree that there’s nothing bad about kids believe in themselves, right?

How to use Positive Affirmations for Kids

As with most skills, repetition is key! Did you learn your multiplication facts right away when you were younger? Um….nope. Unless you’re a total genius (if so, congrats!), you most likely practiced those multiplication facts over and over again. Flash cards, writing the facts out, completing worksheets…it took a lot of work and repetition, right? The same goes for positive affirmations!

When it comes to the 60 Powerful Positive Affirmation Coloring Pages I created for kids, I designed them with the goal of having kids complete 1 coloring page per week. Then, throughout the week, that affirmation would be repeated each day through a variety of activities.

Here’s an example of how a week might go with the “I am Smart” positive affirmation coloring page:

  • Monday: color in the coloring page, say the affirmation out loud, and hang the coloring page up on a wall/cabinet front/etc.
  • Tuesday: start the day by saying the affirmation out loud and start a list with one example “I am smart because…”
  • Wednesday: start the day by saying the affirmation out loud and add another example to the “I am smart because…” list
  • Thursday: start the day by saying the affirmation out loud, add another example to the list, and practice writing out the reasons through a sensory activity (writing in sand, for example)
  • Friday: start the day by saying the affirmation out loud and read through the entire “I am smart because…” list. This activity could even be reinforced by creating an original song, a dance, writing a poem, etc.

Once the coloring pages are completed, I envision them being displayed on the walls of your homeschool area or throughout the hallways of an elementary school so they can serve as a consistent reminder of how awesome the kids are. They’d make the areas bright and colorful while bringing some positivity into the space. Sweet!

Sounds like fun, right? Of course, you’re totally open to using the coloring pages however you’d like, but I especially love the idea of incorporating a variety of skills and sensory activities into the affirmations.
